Meet Dr. Cari Alvarez
Dr. Cari Alvarez, Ph.D. (She/Ella)
I’m a licensed bilingual psychologist with over a decade of experience, specializing in comprehensive psychological evaluations for autism, ADHD, learning differences, and emotional-behavioral challenges. But I don’t stop at providing a diagnosis. My goal is to deliver clear, evidence-based insights and practical strategies that improve how children function and how families feel.
I’ve had the privilege of working in diverse settings, including children’s hospitals, academic medical centers, nonprofit clinics, and military bases overseas. I’ve also taught across educational levels, from elementary classrooms to graduate university programs, and currently serve as part of the teaching team at Harvard. In addition, I’ve contributed to peer-reviewed research on autism, cross-cultural care, and parent-focused behavioral interventions.
My clinical approach is rooted in Parent Management Training (PMT) and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) — two of the most effective, research-supported models for:
Reducing tantrums, meltdowns, and defiance
Supporting emotional regulation and follow-through
Managing ADHD and autism-related behaviors
Strengthening family routines, transitions, and resilience
Helping caregivers feel confident rather than reactive or overwhelmed
Families often come to me seeking clarity, not only around their child’s diagnosis, but around what to do next. I offer structured, practical recommendations tailored to each child’s unique profile, grounded in science yet realistic for the demands of daily life.
Above all, I aim to help parents feel informed, supported, and empowered with tools that make a real difference.
My Credentials
I received my bachelor’s degree from Portland State University and earned a master’s degree from Florida International University. My Doctoral training in Clinical Counseling Psychology was completed through Utah State University, and my pediatric residency through the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine.
I started my career as a school teacher and have worked in hospitals, schools, community clinics, and nonprofit organizations.
I am a licensed psychologist in the state of Florida (License #PY12346)
